At Eligo, we are passionate about developing new drugs to address unmet medical needs!

Eligo is building a platform technology to produce eligobiotics that can target a wide range of bacterial species. With such a capability, Eligo is poised to lead the new generation of precision microbiome engineering companies.

To be able to translate our research to the clinic, we need to genetically engineer our producer strains to enable the packaging of synthetic circuits into our eligobiotics, and also to optimize the genetic circuits themselves to perform well in in-vivo models.

We are looking for excellent molecular biologists / synthetic biologists excited to tackle the ambitious challenges of diving into phage genetics and engineering bacterial strains.

The ideal candidate is passionate about genetic engineering. You’ll work hand-in-hand with Eligo microbiologists, phage biologists, and animal model scientists to optimize the engineering and validation of eligobiotics candidates for clinical trials.


  • Build, test, debug, and optimize genetic circuits 
  • Strain engineering and optimization 
  • Tune genetic expression on developed circuits for efficient function in target pathogenic bacteria 
  • Build from scratch new DNA packaging and delivery systems 
  • Work hand-in-hand with our Phage Biologists and Microbiologists to accelerate the process of eligobiotics engineering


  • Ph.D. or equivalent 
  • Can copy, paste, or edit genetic code on a plasmid or a genome as easily as using Word 
  • Previous success engineering at least one organism or gene or circuit — plants, fish, microbes, worms, fungi … it doesn’t matter, as long as it worked! 🙂
  • Demonstrated experience with molecular biology techniques such as PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis/gel extraction, plasmid preparation (minipreps), bacterial transformation, and Sanger sequencing data analysis. 
  • Several years of post-graduate/industry experience with a second organism a plus 
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and accuracy and an ability to work independently to solve technical problems 
  • Ability to multi-task without compromising quality and accuracy 
  • Effective management of time and effort to meet deadlines 
  • Strong interactive skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong collaborative attitude essential
